Student Policy & Code of Conduct
A clear framework for responsible student life at St. Francis de Sales College — promoting regular attendance, discipline, respect, safety and academic responsibility.
The SFS College believes that student success is promoted by regular attendance and participation in class. This policy sets out the College's expectations concerning student attendance and conduct on campus and applies to all modes of course delivery.
01 • Campus Expectations General Code of Conduct
Students are expected to maintain respectful, disciplined and responsible behaviour throughout their association with the College.
Students shall obey all orders of the Principal.
Students shall behave respectfully with the Principal and Staff of the College and politely with their fellow students. Any act of disobedience, improper conduct or indecent remarks at women students will be viewed seriously.
Smoking cigarettes and use of other tobacco products in the college premises is strictly prohibited.
No student shall directly send any materials concerning the College to the press or elsewhere for publication without the permission and prior approval of the Principal.
Students are not authorized to form associations, societies or unions in the College without the permission of the Principal.
The Principal reserves the right to remove from the College rolls the name of any student for failure to pay College dues in time, failure to come up to academic standards or conduct which, in the opinion of the Principal, is unsatisfactory.
Ragging in any form or manner is strictly prohibited within and outside the College campus.
The College will not be responsible for or interfere in any legal action by police against students involved in ragging, beating, quarrel, etc.
Students are advised not to bring valuables or costly items to the College. The College shall not be responsible for any loss in this regard.
Initial fees must be paid immediately, otherwise admission is liable to be cancelled.
The original Transfer Certificate will not be returned under any circumstances. A duplicate Transfer Certificate will not be accepted.
The original marksheet will not be returned till the end of the session as the University may require the same for inspection. Students are advised to prepare sufficient copies for their use and have them attested before seeking admission.
Students seeking admission to the next higher class after the last academic year must submit their application forms within SEVEN days after declaration of College/University Examination results, after which the application may be refused.
02 • Daily Discipline Punctuality & Dress Code
Arrive Early
Students are expected to come 10 minutes before the commencement of classes. Attendance will be taken within the first five minutes of the period. Late comers shall not attend that particular hour and may sit in the library and do useful work.
Regular Punctuality
If students are regularly late, the HOD/Class Mentor should identify them and appropriate punishment may be imposed.
College Dress Code
Students shall come to College in the stipulated dress. Indecent or inappropriate clothing is strictly not allowed. Violations may prevent attendance in classes, practicals and the Library.
Display Your ID Card
Students must display their ID cards at all times while on campus. Students without an ID card may be sent out of the campus immediately.
03 • Accountability Indiscipline & Punishment
Cases of indiscipline, misbehaviour or insubordination should be dealt with at the HOD or Principal level.

04 • Responsible Technology Use Prohibition of Cell Phones
Keep Classes & Examinations Distraction-Free
The usage of cell phones in classes and practicals is strictly prohibited. Such cell phones shall be confiscated by the faculty concerned and submitted to the Principal for further action.
Students must surrender their cell phones to invigilators during Internal / External theory and practical examinations. A phone found with a student during an examination will be treated as malpractice.
Students using cell phones during regular class or practical hours may face severe action, including confiscation for one week.
Taking photos/videos of girl students without their permission is an offence. Posting photos/videos of College incidents, activities or campus to tarnish the name of the College is strictly prohibited. Students are otherwise encouraged to popularise SFS College on social media.
05 • Academic Responsibility Attendance Policy
Attendance records are displayed regularly, and students are responsible for checking their attendance and raising any discrepancy promptly.
A student is eligible to write the semester-end examinations only if the prescribed attendance requirement is fulfilled.
Attendance of the preceding month for a particular programme shall be displayed every month on College Notice Boards as well as on the student portal in the first week of every month.
Any discrepancy in attendance should be reported to the concerned Faculty through a written application within three days of display of the Attendance Record.
Before the semester-end examination, cumulative attendance shall be displayed on the College Notice Board as well as the student portal.
Students who have not attended lectures or practicals despite being present on campus may be liable for punishment and their parents/guardians may be called upon to explain.
06 • Semester Requirements Attendance Norms for Semester-End Examination
Every student is supposed to attend 100% lectures, practicals and tutorials conducted for every course in each semester, irrespective of the faculty and subject.
A student is eligible to write the semester-end examinations only if he/she fulfils at least 75% attendance as an average of the total lectures, practicals and tutorials conducted for all courses taken together in every semester.
An undertaking shall be signed by the student and his/her parent/guardian that the student will attend lectures, practicals and tutorials regularly to meet the attendance criteria.
In case of absence due to grave illness/accident, the student should have a minimum of 60% attendance, obtain permission after rejoining the College and submit a medical certificate issued by a registered medical practitioner along with the medical prescription on the first day of return.
If any student is found irregular, has more backlogs or is undisciplined, the institution has the right to issue T.C. or suitable punishment.
Attendance/leave will be given to students officially representing the College in sports, extra-curricular, co-curricular activities, competitions, NSS/NCC camps, workshops, symposiums, seminars or similar activities with prior permission of the Principal, Vice Principal or Head of the Department.
A student representing the College in such activities should submit the participating certificate or relevant document within six working days to the Principal / Head of the Department.
For absences because of a death in the family or an emergency beyond the family's control, the parent must notify the College and provide documentation for the absence.
The Principal shall be the Competent Authority to condone deficiency of attendance of any student for genuine reasons.
Students who are not eligible to appear at the Semester-End Examination will be required to take re-admission in the respective semester and programme in the subsequent academic year by paying the requisite fee.
07 • Safety & Practical Learning Student Code of Conduct for Laboratory
Report to the required laboratory on time.
Wear a laboratory coat/apron and eye protective goggles.
Handle all laboratory equipment, apparatus, chemicals and glassware with care.
Immediately inform the faculty/attendant in case of damage to laboratory equipment, apparatus, chemicals or glassware.
Any damage caused to equipment, apparatus, chemicals or glassware will be recovered from the concerned student(s).
Adhere to the instructions given by the faculty or laboratory attendant during the laboratory class.
In case of non-compliance with the teacher's instructions, the student alone will be responsible for accidents or mishaps in the laboratory.
Bring the observation copy and record book. Work silently, individually or in designated groups. Unruly behaviour such as unnecessary talking is strictly prohibited.
Enter each experiment in the observation copy and obtain the teacher-in-charge's signature on the same day. Obtain the record-book signature within one week of completion.
Students absenting themselves from laboratory sessions cannot claim the right to re-do experiments. The decision of the Head of Department will be final.
Students who have not performed all experiments and do not have the required signatures may not be allowed to appear for the practical examination. In humanitarian cases, record-book marks may not be awarded.
Theory examination rules also apply to practical examinations. Written materials, discussing with other students and use of mobile phones are treated as malpractice.
08 • Campus Safety Vehicle Parking
Students are to park their vehicles in the allotted parking space only.
Vehicles are not permitted beyond the parking lot. Students are advised to follow all precautions for safe driving.
Parking is at the owner's risk and the College shall not be responsible for any loss or damage to vehicles.
Entry and exit of vehicles will not be permitted without the driver(s) wearing a helmet.
