About the Department
A long-standing centre of chemistry education, research and academic development at St. Francis de Sales College.
The Department of Chemistry was established in 1957 and is situated on the third floor of the College building. Spread across a built-up area of approximately 9,500 sq. ft., the department enjoys scenic surroundings and a panoramic view of the city. Over the decades, the department has developed into an important academic and research centre within the College, combining classroom learning, laboratory experience, research and academic service.
Chemistry was introduced as one of the subjects for the undergraduate programme from the academic session 1962–63. The department subsequently expanded its academic offerings with the introduction of the M.Sc. Chemistry programme in 2002 as a self-financed course.
The Department of Chemistry is also a recognised research centre of Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University, Nagpur. With a blend of experienced faculty, contributory and Ad-Hoc teaching staff, non-teaching support staff and a substantial student community, the department continues to provide an engaging environment for the study and practice of chemistry.
