The Department of Zoology was established in this College in the year 1959. The pioneers & pillars of the department are eminent personalities like Late Dr. Patwardhan – an eminent researcher, curator and author of Prawn Memoir, Late Dr. C. B. Powar – an expert in the field of Genetics, Biochemistry, Cytology etc, late Dr. P. N. Dixit – an eminent Entomologist, Late Dr. J. D. Sahasrabuddhe – an expert Herpetologist and Dr. (Mrs). P. J. Sahasrabuddhe – an eminent researcher in Biochemistry & Reproductive Physiology.
Presently the
Department is headed by Dr. Advait Bhagade.
The primary objective of the department is to impart
basic & recent knowledge of the subject through all the modern resources
available & make the teaching more student-centric. It also focuses on
preparing the students to meet global challenges with a blend of recent trends
in the various branches of zoology.
The department has 2 full time, highly qualified, competent and devoted teachers in Degree College & a staff of 3 teachers in Junior college

- The College gives the Dr. J. D. Sahasrabuddhe and Dr. Mrs. P. J.
Sahasrabuddhe award to the student scoring maximum marks in Zoology at
graduation. - A Bridge Course is conducted for new entrants every year.

- Students are given exposure to the real time aspects of the subject
through Field Visits. - Student Seminars, Workshops, and Presentations help to hone the knowledge
and sharpen presentation and organizational skills of the students.
